Cultural and Performing Arts

South Waikato Combined Schools Music Festival

Every two years the schools in the South Waikato area join together to perform as a mass choir. Schools also perform individual items.

School Productions and Performances

Staff, children and parents all enjoy being involved in school shows. The children build confidence and skills across all aspects of producing and directing a school show and showcase their talents.

Kapahaka Group and South Waikato Cultural Festival

Students at Whakamaru School become part of our whole school Kapahaka group.

They practice for school events, powhiri, special events and for either the Taiopenga o Tuwharetoa festival or South Waikato Cultural Festival that we attend alternatively. These take place annually, in Taupo & Tokoroa Event Centres respectfully and is one of the highlights of the school year.

We have a Te Reo and Kapahaka tutor who teaches the children every Tuesday, through the school year.

Performers and Presenters

Visits from performers and presenters to stimulate learning in a fun and interactive way. These include programmes such as the ‘Kids Can’  and guest authors through the ‘Duffy Books in School programme’.
